In the role of mentors in the art area of the stipendiary programme MenART the recognised artists Milan Cais, Petr Nikl and Maxim Velčovský led their charges from among the gifted pupils at primary art schools on the path to understanding creativity, the art of looking and seeing, to understanding that the process is sometimes more important than the results. Each mentor worked with his group in a different manner. Petr Nikl led his students to cooperate in joint performative works, in which they tried painting and drawing using things other than their hands. Maxim Velčovský challenged the participants to become engaged – each had to find a problem that mattered to them, and in an original manner to express it on an artistic transparency. Milan Cais concentrated on discovering the artistic potential of each member of the group and supporting them in finding unusual approaches and solutions.
The exhibition, presenting the results of the year-round joint work, shows how varied Czech creativity can be and how important the issue of mutual communication, inspiration and also cooperation is.
Alongside the work of the students the exhibition also displays works by all three mentors, which can be found not only in the premises of the former printing shop but also in other places in the town.
