2. 6. – 30. 9. 2026
The exhibition in the Municipal Picture Gallery connects 19th century portraiture from the collection of the Municipal Gallery Litomyšl, represented by works by Viktor Barvitius, Antonín Dvořák, Leopold Ferber and others, with contemporary approaches to depicting the human face. While traditional portraiture sought to capture the likeness and character of the sitter, in contemporary art this genre is open to formal experimentation and personal interpretation. Works by Kristof Kintera, Kateřina Šedá, Natalie Perkof, Alžběta Skálová, Jana Farmanová and Milena Dopitová show the transformation of the portrait genre – from an emphasis on the individual form to broader considerations of identity, society and anonymity. It is here that the exhibition intersects with the festival theme – natura.
