Tear of hope – LacrimAu

One of the unique exhibits and main attractions of the Czech house at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai will be put on display under strict security measures as part of Smetana's creative Litomyšl. Following the exhibition in the library of Vítkovice chateau, this will be the second and last possibility in the Czech Republic to see a 80cm tall and 50cm wide gold-plated statue. The sculptor of this unique work of art, Federico Díaz, works mainly with the human feelings: "I had been looking for a symbol or shape that depicts two positions of emotions, joy and sorrow. And thus LacrimAu came into existence. The name LacrimAu combines the Latin word for tear with the chemical symbol for gold".

Tear of hope

Tears may be an outburst of deep internal emotions of sorrow or joyful bliss.

Christ himself cried over the sinful Jerusalem to taste the salt of its holy tears: the real human essence of sympathy, sacrifice and selfless love. And this is just this that makes "salt more worthy than gold".

Apostle Paul wrote: „Rejoice with the rejoicing and weep with the weeping." In other words: „Taste the living essence of the tears of your fellows."

Artist Federico Díaz has provided his "tear" for the exhibition as part of Smetana's creative Litomyšl to be on display in the New Church of the Church of the Bohemian Brethren so that a fund-raising event could bring necessary funds for the charity organisation Naděje in Vysoké Mýto and in Česká Třebová and help fund the completed church of the Church of the Bohemian Brethren. It will also be used to help elderly people and excluded children, particularly from the Romany communities.

Roman playwright and poet Syrus Publilius wrote: „Love is like a tear: it spring up in the eye, falls to the heart." I hope that the tear by Federico Díaz will please the eyes of the visitors and open their hearts.
