The garden of August's Printing Company will offer an outdoor exhibition presenting the history and future of August's Printing Company as part of the 17th Smetana's Creative Litomyšl. 110 years ago, Vladimír Augusta imprinted a completely new look on the panorama of the Monastery Gardens by expanding his printing house with a four-storey south wing, which covered a large part of the provost church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. However, this most extensive construction phase in the long, more than 500-year history of the house predestined the building for its new function. Since 2018, the reconstruction of August's printing house into a cultural centre is being prepared, where a permanent exhibition of Czech landscape painter and native of Litomyšl Julius Mařák should find its home. The reconstruction of August's Printing Company is being prepared following the design of the architectural studio SBORWITZ Architects. The reconstruction was preceded by detailed architecture-historical and archival research. With the help of historical plans and photographs, the exhibition will not only offer a look back into the past, but thanks to visualizations, visitors will also be able to get acquainted with the planned appearance of this important monument of Litomyšl for the first time.
