Smetana’s Creative Litomyšl will present the work of the world-renowned artist, the king of Czech comics and great music lover, Kája Saudek. From May to September, the Regional Museum will offer a taste of the best of what he created in the course of half a century, despite the oppression from the totalitarian regime that stifled his work in the most fruitful years. The audience will be shown comics as well as large-format images that we know from films, oil paintings as well as detailed drawings, 3D objects and playful but meticulously-executed, personal New Year cards, posters and published material, but also personal objects including family photographs. Let your eyes “listen” to the sharp lines of the artist’s pen and ink drawings and enjoy the subtle humour that pervades them. The curators, Berenika Saudková and David Goldberg, promise that you will see excellent examples of his enormously extensive oeuvre intended for children as well as adults, including a video projection of other pieces of Saudek’s work. One corner of the exhibition is unsuitable for a young audience.
