The exhibition at the Castle Brewery entitled Passion presents the emotionally expressive paintings of Jiří Vincenc Slavíček (*1955). The exhibition in Litomyšl, organized on the occasion of the artist’s seventieth birthday, presents works from recent years that are characterized by their large format and bravura painterly gesture. Among the paintings, visitors to the exhibition will find both paintings characterised by vibrant pasty layers of colour and works in which the matter is removed. Thus, while in the first case the painterly gesture lies outside the painting, in the artist’s “oil carvings” the space enters directly into the interior of the painting to support the meaning of the materiality of the painting. It is this tension and simultaneous synergy that is the essence of the exhibition Passion. They reveal the inwardly focused work of a painter whose passion is painting, colour and the hidden mystery of nature’s birth. Nature around us and nature within us. We are part of it.
